THE POEM “THE SIEGE OF CORINTH” BY G.G. BYRON IN THE RUSSIAN TRANSLATION BY D. E. MIN

The article contains the analysis of J.-G. Byron’s interpretation of the «east» poem «The Siege of Corinth» (1816) by D. E. Min at the beginning of 1860-s and published in 1875. The complete translation of Byron’s poem by N. V. Gerbel (1873) and the translation of stanzas XIX, XX and XXI by I. I. Kozlov (1829), containing the description of Francesca phenomenon, are taken for the comparative analysis. The athors highlight the common traits characterizing all early poetic translations of «The Siege of Corinth» such as – the increase in the poems number, the original text elaboration, keeping of literary details, description of shades meaning etc. At the same time, the researchers define the individual peculiarity of D. E. Min’s translation determined in many respects by the translator’s creative principles, his aspiration for semantic accuracy, correctness, preservation of the literary details reflecting peculiarities of the original.
